Rose Wollman - viola
Violist Rose Wollman (rosewollman.com )is an active performer, teacher and chamber and orchestral musician. She is currently the violist of the Larchmere String Quartet, which is the 2012-13 Eykamp String Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Evansville, and Principals of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. She will also be serving as principal violist of the Owensboro Symphony for the 2012-13 season. In addition to her positions in southern Indiana, Rose is also the violist of the Petar Jankovic Ensemble, a group comprised of string quartet and guitar, with whom she has toured the United States and Europe. The Petar Jankovic Ensemble released its first CD in January of 2012 called From Spain to Tango, and it features the works of Astor Piazzolla, Manuel De Falla, and many more.
As an orchestra musician, Rose has played with the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra under Pierre Boulez, the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra under Fabio Luisi, the Portland Symphony in Portland, Maine, the Rhode Island Philharmonic, principal violist with the Cape Cod Symphony and as assistant principal with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, to name a few.
Rose is a champion of new music, and has been involved in the premiers of many new works in the Boston area and at Indiana University, including a chamber music recital of commissioned works by IU faculty and students. The Larchmere String Quartet is equally dedicated, and has performed in the Music of Now Marathon at Symphony Space in New York as well as a recital of music by IU composition faculty at the Americas Society in New York.
A dedicated teacher, Rose served as Assistant Professor of Viola at the DePauw University School of Music, and Associate Instructor of Viola for the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She has also been a teaching assistant for Atar Arad at Indiana University, Mai Motobuchi at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, Masumi Rostad at the University of Illinois (both viola and chamber music), and a student teacher for the String Academy at Indiana University. She has coached orchestra sectionals at the University of Illinois, and for the Youth Symphony at the NEC preparatory school, and coached chamber music at the University of Illinois and the Indiana University String Academy. As a member of the Eykamp Quartet she coaches chamber music and orchestra sectionals at the University of Evansville, and works with the Evansville Youth Philharmonic Orchestra in sectionals and rehearsals.
Rose is currently pursuing her DM in viola performance, with a minor in music theory, from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She holds a MM and GD from the New England Conservatory of Music, and a BM from the University of Illinois. Her primary teachers have been Atar Arad, Carol Rodland, Masumi Rostad and Rudolf Haken.
