Rose Wollman - viola
Rose Wollman is an active performer, teacher and chamber and orchestral musician. She has played with the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra under Pierre Boulez, the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra under Fabio Luisi, the Portland Symphony in Portland, Maine, the Rhode Island Philharmonic, principal violist with the Cape Cod Symphony and as assistant principal with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, to name a few.
Rose is an avid chamber musician, and was the violist of the 2010-11 prestigious Kuttner Quartet at Indiana University. Rose was also the violist of the Cervantes Quartet, with whom she was broadcast on the WILL FM Second Sunday concert series in Champaign, Illinois. As a member of this quartet, she was also a Young Artist in Residence at Strings in the Mountains in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Rose is a champion of new music, and has been involved in the premiers of many new works in the Boston area and at Indiana University, including a chamber music recital of commissioned works by IU faculty and students.
Rose is a dedicated teacher to students of all ages. She served as Assistant Professor of Viola at the DePauw University School of Music for the spring 2011 semester and since September 2010 she has been an Associate Instructor of Viola for the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Rose has also been a teaching assistant for Atar Arad at Indiana University, Mai Motobuchi at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, Masumi Rostad at the University of Illinois (both viola and chamber music), and a assistant teacher for the String Academy at Indiana University. She has also been an orchestra sectional coach at the University of Illinois, and for the Youth Symphony at the NEC preparatory school.
After receiving a BM from the University of Illinois in viola performance, and a MM and a GD in viola performance from the New England Conservatory, Rose went on to pursue a DM at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Her primary teachers have been Atar Arad, Carol Rodland, Masumi Rostad and Rudolf Haken.
